Monkey Business

Monkey Business LP

Here we come, walking down the street, a bunch of Monkees ripoffs, and a great cover to beat! Not only do they do Monkees songs, they borrow VERY closely from the Monkees logo on the cover. But it's still a great cover, and the LP is issued by the Wyncote label, long known as the mark of quality among knockoff and cash-in labels. The music is actually pretty good on one side, with a singer providing a passable semblance of Mickey Dolenz' voice, albeit somewhat effete and Brit-ified. Some of the Monkees covers are entertaining, but most of the other side turns me off - sort of the standard 1969 version of "groovy hipness".
